Agriturismo La Fidanza is located in Cortennano, a very few meters from “Via Francigena”: the iconic walk that crosses the village of San Gimignano.
For many centuries this walk has been the route for pilgrims, artists and traders from all around Europe. It stretches from Canterbury in England to Rome for about 3,260 kilometers. Today many explorers are still rediscovering this magnificent path, on foot or by bicycle.
What to see?
Imagine today that you are walking on the same path as that used by the “Knights Templar”, who lived around the village of San Gimignano.
Along the Francigena way they used to set up “Domus Templi”, strongholds where they settled on their way to Rome. One example is the tiny church of “San Jacopo” built by them during the XIII century; it is the location of the annual celebration of “Saint Vincent”, organized by Montenidoli. The white wine “Il Templare” from Montenidoli is dedicated to them.
What to do?
We recommend the amazing stage 32 along “Via Francigena” which leaves Agrtiturismo la Fidanza through San Gimignano. It goes up and down hills to reach Molino d’Aiano, a resort along the Sigerico track. It then proceeds to Badia a Coneo, Gracciano, and Strove, via the pretty Romanesque Pieve. The path then goes on to the wonderful architectural structure of Abbadia in Isola before reaching Monteriggioni.
